I am trying to identify a tree in my yard, can someone please help me??

My son just bought his home and has discovered that he has a wide variety of fruit trees in his backyard ... but there is one tree that we are not able to identify and we were wondering if you could please help us ... I have a picture that I can upload for you to see if needed.

My answer: Susan, you've got me stumped here! The flowers look like a hellebore but I've never seen one this tall before.

Can anyone help identify this plant?

Mystery Tree

If you crimp a leaf, what does it smell like? Since you are new in your home, I suppose you haven't seen your tree as the seasons progress. When you look on the ground around the tree, what do you see? Are there similar trees in your neighborhood? If so, maybe a neighbor can enlighten you as to your tree's identity. Best wishes to you!
